Wilma was born November 28, 1929 as the fourth of four children to John Herbert Jones and Anna Marie Luedtke Jones in Ruskin, Nebraska. She grew up in York, Nebraska and graduated from York High School. She attended Hastings College for two years, and then graduated from the University of Nebraska, with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1951. She moved to Beatrice, Nebraska after college and began working for the Central Electric and Gas Company as a home economist. She met her husband Bill at the gas company and they married July 3, 1955.

After taking time off from work with two young children, she returned to work in 1967 at the Beatrice State Home as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional, where she would teach for 19 years. Wilma also taught at the Beatrice Senior High School from 1984 to 1987, working with difficult behavior impaired students.

Wilma and Bill then started a new venture, opening The Catering Kitchen out of their home. Wilma published a cookbook of her favorite recipes, complete with a recipe for edible play dough for her grandchildren. The Catering Kitchen would keep them busy for the next 15 years, with Wilma catering for events that had up to 400 guests.

Wilma was active throughout the community volunteering at the Beatrice Community Hospital, the Humane Society, and the local food bank. She was also an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church, a member of Eastern Star, and the Beatrice Art Guild. She traveled with medical mission teams to Nicaragua, Belize, and South Sudan. She cruised to the Caribbean, Alaska, Italy, and the Holy Lands, as well as visiting Ireland. She was a prolific painter, and sold paintings to fund her church’s youth group mission trip.
