William F. Scharff

William Frederick Scharff 86 of Gretna, Nebraska passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2026.

Bill was a pressman at the Omaha World Herald before joining the Navy where he served on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington. He married the love of his life Nancy and shared 60 wonderful years before her passing in 2020. He loved hunting, fishing, anything farm related and had a long career as a truck driver for Hinky Dinky and Metz (Old Home) Baking. After retirement he worked part time as a truck driving instructor at Metropolitan Community College. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and very proud of his family.

Preceded in death by wife Nancy, granddaughter Elizabeth Fibich, his parents Frederick and Vera, brother Gary and sister-n-law Valerie

Survived by children, Derek, Kathy (Dave) Fibich, Linda (Flint) Harper

Grandchildren, Patty (Dustin) VanCleve, Susie (Chris) Baustian, Darren (Jen) Harper, Justin (Amanda) Harper, Brandon (Barbara) Harper, Amanda Harper and Becky (DJ) Maes

Great Grandchildren, Chloe, Luke, Brynn, Colton, Hallie, Lena, Kayson, Maeve, Reina, Bonnibel, Bennett, Melody and Marinette

Visitation Thursday 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Friday (7/31/2026) at Roeder Mortuary 11710 Standing Stone Gretna, Nebraska 68028, Interment Omaha National Cemetery Friday 12:30 PM.
