William F. “Bill” Dahlheim was born and raised in North Bend, Nebraska on Nov. 4, 1931, to William and Pearl Dahlheim. After graduating, he began delivering trailer houses to surrounding states.
Bill joined the Army and served from March 1951 to December 1952. He was with the 5th Regimental Combat team in Korea. Upon discharge, he married Jean Clift of Virginia. Together they had a daughter, Linda. This union ended in divorce. In 1957 he married Dolores (Dvorak) Hull. She had two daughters, Sonia and Marlyce. Bill and Dolores together had a son, Gregg.
The family lived in Omaha until 1963, when they moved to Gretna, Nebraska. Bill resided in Gretna until his death. Bill drove a truck for several companies, including Safeway and Farmland Industries. After he retired from trucking, he went to work for Gretna Public Schools driving a school bus for 11 ½ years. He retired from GPS at the age of 80!
Bill enjoyed dancing. He loved Glenn Miller, the big bands and polka. Camping was his passion. He loved to visit and was a great conversationalist. He read his newspaper daily and loved keeping up his yard, always making sure sticks and leaves were not littering his beautiful lawn.
Bill was a member of Gretna United Methodist Church since 1963. He was a member of American Legion Post #216 as well as a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Dolores; parents, William and Pearl Dahlheim; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alvin and Wilma Dvorak; brothers, Leonard (Eileen), Harold (Jeannie, Marie) and sisters Caroline (Bose) Nemetz and Helen (Art) Ledger; brother-in-law, Lynn Keller; and grandson, Jamie Dahlheim. Bill is survived by daughters, Sonia Wooldridge (Bill Gray), Chappell, Nebraska; Linda Benck, Lincoln, Nebraska; Marlyce (Randy) Peck, Loveland, Colorado; and son, Gregg (Katherine) Dahlheim, Omaha, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Keller; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation Thursday 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary. Memorial Service 10:00 AM Friday (1/5/24) at Gretna United Methodist Church 11457 S 204th St. Gretna, NE. Burial Friday 1:30 PM at Omaha National Cemetery.
