William Dean Luxford, “Bill” was born on June 21, 1952 in Harlan, IA. He was the 2nd born and only son to Dean H. Luxford and Darlene D. (Fuqua) Luxford. Bill was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Shelby, IA. Bill was raised his entire childhood in Shelby, IA and attended Shelby Tennet School K-12, graduating in 1970. He then attended Dana College in Blair, NE and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1974. He met his wife Diane (Williamson) Luxford while a Junior at Dana College. They were married on June 1, 1975. Bill and Diane had 1 daughter, Amber (Luxford) Vo on January 19,1982.
After graduating with an accounting degree, he quickly diverted his career path to something more in line with his personality. Bill loved people and spent most of his career as a sales representative selling various products; more recently selling home furnishings to Interior Designers. Early in their marriage, Bill and Diane enjoyed Round Dancing and made many lifelong friends doing this together. Bill and Diane were also members of a marriage encounter group and would spend time with them every month sharing their joys and trials of raising a family and their love for Christ. Bill has always enjoyed fishing and would talk of times with his grandfather or his parents out on the lake. He recently began fishing again and would set aside a day each week to pursue that hobby. He called this time, “his alone time with God.” Bill also loved to play cribbage and credited the game of cribbage as how he learned math as a kid. Not surprisingly, Bill found a cribbage group in Omaha, NE and participated in many tournaments with friends. Bill loved his family. He has always been Diane’s biggest supporter and celebrated her achievements as an interior designer. Diane would not have accomplished what she has without Bill by her side. He was loyal to Diane and her protector. He even picked fresh lilacs and put them in a vase for her on the day he died. Bill and Diane loved to entertain, they were the perfect pair and regularly hosted 4th of July parties. Bill and Diane’s daughter, Amber (Luxford) Vo is married to Khoa Vo and presently lives in Charleston, SC. Bill was the proud grandpa to Khoa and Amber’s 4 daughters: Violet, Scarlett, Coral Ann and Sage Vo. Bill and Diane have been members of St. Timothy’s Lutheran church since 2004. Beforehand, they were members of Lutheran Church of the Master since they were married. At St. Timothy’s, Bill was a member of the church council and regularly volunteered utilizing his excellent cooking skills for fundraising dinners and mission trips. Bill was a closet preacher at heart. He loved learning and spreading God’s word. He regularly attended a Men’s Bible Study Fellowship. One of Bill’s infamous catch phrases was, “Late Luxford’s” for every event he was supposed to be at. It is thought that he actually relished the idea of being fashionably late, though he’d never admit it. Sadly, Bill passed away too soon on April 19, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE at the young age of 71 years. He was not late to meet our heavenly Father.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Dean and Darlene Luxford and his father-in-law Paul Williamson. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Diane Luxford, his daughter Amber (Khoa) Vo and granddaughters Violet, Scarlett, Coral Ann, and Sage Vo. Also surviving Bill is his mother-in-law Nadine Williamson and his sister Dixie (Luxford) McClelland and Mac McClelland. Nieces Karen McClelland, Nikki McClelland, (Tony Gardner) Jessica McClelland (Claudia Yepes). Bill is survived by brothers-in-law David (Julie) Williamson, Rod (Sharon) Williamson, sister-in-law Julie (Rod) Hill and nieces Sarah Williamson (Fernando Navales), Amy (Brad) Humphrey, Elizbeth (Addison) Merchut, Hannah (Connor) Fritz, Megan Hill. And nephews Mark (Steph) Williamson, Matthew (Kelly) Williamson, Mitchell Williamson, Alex Williamson, and Grant Hill. Bill had numerous other great nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special recognition to his cousin Diana Schweitzer, who was like a sister to him and her three daughters Catherine Schweitzer, Elizabeth (Russ) Dempsey and Maria (Josh) Holstein.
