In Loving Memory of Wayne Bauer Wayne, age 86, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, leaving behind a life rich in service, curiosity, and connection.
Born in Michigan in 1939, Wayne earned a degree in communications from Central Michigan University in 1961, where he also participated in ROTC—a formative experience that shaped his career and values. His academic foundation opened doors to managerial roles at radio stations, where he applied his leadership skills with professionalism and focus. Eventually, his talents and sense of duty guided him toward military service, where he served with distinction—beginning as a lieutenant and retiring as a major.
A man of quiet strength and steady faith, Wayne found joy in classic country ballads, especially the sounds of George Jones and others who gave voice to heartache and resilience. His deep interest in American history fueled countless conversations and reading hours. Wayne also served as an elder in the Presbyterian church in his hometown—a role that reflected his quiet devotion and thoughtful leadership, deepening his ties to faith and community.
The life’s lessons Wayne learned growing up on the family farm served him well—not only in civilian life but also in his military service. Whether on practice maneuvers or the battlefields of Vietnam, he earned the respect of his men, displaying the hallmarks of a good leader. Wayne’s character reflected the enduring spirit of the United States Army: “This We’ll Defend.” That unwavering commitment, rooted in service and honor, was evident in every chapter of his life. He embodied the values of “Duty, Honor, Country,” not for fame or reward, but in simple obedience to duty.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 50 years: Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews who cherish his honesty, warmth, and unwavering faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
