Verta “Jean” Nelsen Brummett, passed away peacefully on September 22. She was born on December 6, 1927 to Clifford and Crystal Good Hawthorne. She married Paul Duane Nelsen January 6, 1946. After his death she married Howard Erwin Brummett on July 22, 1989.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; siblings, Merrill Hawthorne, Norma MacDonald, Janet Hawthorne; and adopted son, William Nelsen. She is survived by two sisters, Clara Mae Umstead and Marlys Sears; two sons, Paul of Wisconsin, and Phillip of Omaha; one daughter, Patricia Rudiger of Omaha; and two step daughters, Susan Lueders of Omaha and Kathy Smith of McLoud, OK; 9 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 4great, great grandchildren.
Jean was industrious and worked over the years: cleaning houses, in a factory candling eggs, movie theater box office, in a department store and in her home as a telephone surveyor and bulk mail sorter. Eventually she worked in the food service of Omaha Public Schools in Benson High School and Mountview Elementary. She volunteered in church, Lions Club and American Red Cross and recorded books for the blind.
VISITATION 3-5pm Sunday at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St. FUNERAL SERVICE 11am Monday at New Life Presbyterian Church, 4060Pratt St. Interment Central City Cemetery. Memorials to New Life Presbyterian Church.
