Versie L. Johnson

1943 - 2019

Versie Lee Johnson born October 8, 1943 in Oakwood, Texas, the last child to Louella Woodard and Joel Douglas.

At a young age they moved to Elreno, Oklahoma where she graduated from Booler T. Washington High School. After high school she attended a business school in Wichita, Ks.

Versie accepted Christ at an early age at Mt Moriah Baptist Church in Elreno and was the superintendent of Sunday school at the age of 17.

Versie relocated to Omaha, Ne in 1967, because her older brother was here and for better job opportunities.

She worked in the nursing field for over 30 years. She worked all over Omaha and she knew everyone and everyone knew her. From hospitals to nursing homes, she also was a Pharmacy clerk for over 5 years. She enjoyed helping people.

Versie was known for her knowledge and leadership skills in everything nursing. She loved helping children and adopted many families throughout the years, so many people loved Versie.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church for many years, she served on the nurse’s ministry and the mass choir.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Joel and Louella, brother; Willie Sr., nephews; Gary D, Marcellous D., niece; Brenda D., her best friend for many years Linda Criner, dear friend Annette Perry.

She is survived by and will leave many precious memories her daughters; M’Shae and Montoya, her grandchildren who were her light and enjoyment Elyssia , Lance , T’mara , brother; Edward D., sister; Faye Douglas, nieces; Janet, Joanne, Lisa nephews; Zach, Willie Jr., Rodrick and Larry.

Versie adopted many people into her family and treated all as her kids; Darla Criner, Keith, Willie, Coella Brown, Derrick Crawford, Kris D.

She leaves behind many nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins and best friends Joan G., Donna K., Lynette J. and many, many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Morning Star Baptist Church, 2019 Burdette Street, Omaha, Nebraska with Visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
