Veronica J. (Whitaker) Steele

Veronica "Vic" J. Steele, age 79, of Omaha, NE passed away Saturday evening, November 26, 2022. She liked to say she grew up in a hotel, her grandparents' hotel in Bedford, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Helen Whitaker. Vic was united in marriage to the love of her life, Roderick Steele in June of 1962. She and Rod had three sons, all of whom attended Blessed Sacrament School. While her children were young, she sold Avon. Later on, she enjoyed performing with various melodrama groups. She never needed a microphone.

Vic worked for 25 years as a payroll specialist for the Corps of Engineers. After retirement, she volunteered for Caring for People, driving disabled and elderly to appointments, as well as volunteering at Immanuel Hospital. Vicki had a warm and vivacious personality. No one was a stranger for long.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survived by sons: Jim Steele (Laury Mahr), Chris (Laurie) Steele, and Matt Steele. Grandchildren: Ben (Kenzi) Steele; Drew, Noah, and Maggie Steele; Lou (Jennifer) Mason and Kristen Steele. Great-grandchild: Parker Steele. Siblings: Laurie (Scott) Fuller and Mike (Linda) Whitaker. Various nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, at 9:00 a.m., with service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St., Omaha, NE. Interment: Calvary Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Kansas Specialty Dog School, Washington, KS (www.ksds.org).
