Verne Kaye (“Kaye”) Ramsey, born December 13th, 1938, in Hastings, NE, preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Genevieve (Jill) Weyand Ramsey and parents Verne Kenneth Ramsey and Ruth Bates Ramsey. Kaye passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2025, in Omaha.
Mr. Ramsey is survived by son Greg of Altadena, CA, wife Martha, grandson Ian; son Doug, daughter in law Maria of Omaha, and granddaughter Vania of Kansas City.
Mr. Ramsey graduated from Hastings High School in 1956, enlisted in the US Navy and played woodwinds in the US Navy Band. He was stationed in Washington, D.C. and Honolulu, Hawaii as a member of Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet (CINCPACFLT) band.
Mr. Ramsey then received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1962 and began a 30-year career in telecommunications with Northwestern Bell and its various incarnations as US West and Century Link.
Mr. Ramsey was also heavily involved in General Aviation earning Private Pilot, Commercial and Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) Licenses and Certificates along with additional Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings. Kaye continued to fly and provide flying lessons until his retirement and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), Antique Aircraft Association (AAA), and AOPA.
Mr. Ramsey was also involved with several philanthropic organizations, including Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, and served on the Board for Omaha Home for Boys. Mr. Ramsey was also Grand Master for the State of Nebraska in 1996.
Kaye had a strong interest in lifelong learning, which included delving into new hobbies and interests with his wife Jill, such as golf, tennis, skiing, horseback riding, dog training, and frequent piano & saxophone duets. They were also volunteers together at the Nebraska Humane society.
Kaye’s presence as a friend, father and husband will be sorely missed.
