Velma Bass

Velma R. Bass was born on January 19, 1967, to the proud parents Herbert Lee Bass Sr. and Lee Margaret Bass.  Embracing in her joyous arrival were her siblings Anita Joy Bass, Herbert Lee Bass Jr. and Tricia Diane Bass.  According to Velma they saved the best for last!!!

Velma was a bright and vivacious child who enjoyed singing, playing tennis, basketball, skating and swimming.  At North High School she played both Jr. Varsity and Varsity.

Velma also enjoyed church from early childhood.  She was a soulful singer as a young girl.  She sang in the angel choir, youth choir, young adult choir and mass choir.  She loved Sunday School.  She later was in charge of the Youth Department at Mt. Calvary.  She was the Assistant Convention Coordinator of Metropolitan Community Churches.

Velma’s love of singing took her out into the community to higher praises led by Jay Terrell.  Much like her mother, she loved singing for the Lord.

Velma worked for Marriott for 25 years where she achieved several awards; on the job trainer, associate of the month and special services.  Velma’s job allowed her to travel worldwide.

Velma was loved by everyone she embraced.  She was known by many names; Sweet Potato, for her love of sweet potato pie.  VIP, the name speaks for itself, and also V.B. by family and friends.

Velma was known to always have a kind word to say.  She would pray for you and with you.  She would call you with a birthday song or just to say “Hi”!
