Van Floyd Mangels

Van Floyd Mangels of Omaha, Nebraska passed away from this life on October 27, 2022

At Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, NE.

He was born to Irven Earl and Maymie Elizabeth Mangels on

April 17, 1926, in Rolla, Kansas. He graduated from Moscow, Kansas High School.

On June 6, 1946, Van married Lois Louise Melville in Sylvia, Kansas.

Van was a decorated Navy Veteran, serving during WWII on the USS IOWA

From:  April of 1944 to May of 1946.

After coming home from the Navy, Van and Lois lived a short time in Wichita, Kansas where

Van worked as a welder.  Van and Lois then moved back to southwest Kansas where he went to work

Farming with his Dad.  Van spent the rest of his working years as a farmer.  He retired in the 1990’s.  Van and Lois were faithful Rolla United Methodist Church members.

Van also served on the Rolla School board and the Rolla Co-op board through the years along with several other Agricultural boards.

Van loved to spend time with his family and especially watching his grandchildren grow up near him.

He also enjoyed spending time in the Colorado mountains with his family in the summer.

After the deaths of his first two wives, Van married Armella Kerth on November 27, 2004.

 Van was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Glen Mangels and Sister, Lois Warner all of Tucson, AZ; his first wife, Lois in 2002; his second wife, Phyllis Crawford; and his youngest son Lynn Mangels in 2012.

Van is survived by sons, Bill Mangels and Phil Mangels, Granddaughter April (Bryan) Gregory, Grandsons, Lane Mangels, Neal (Leslie) Mangels, Adam (Diana) Mangels, Jeff (Jennifer) Mangels as well as numerous great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at the Rolla Cemetery at:  11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022.  In lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the Rolla United Methodist Church of Rolla, Kansas or any local VFW Auxiliary.
