Thomas D. Hlavac

Thomas Dwayne Hlavac, 62, of Gretna, passed away at Chi Lakeside hospital on Wednesday September 2, 2026 after battling a chronic illness. Tom was born on February 16,1964, in South Dakota to Melvin Dwayne Hlavac and Sharon Lee Christiansen Hlavac, and moved to Nebraska as a child. Tom was a long-time employee of Smart Chicken. He was a lover of all cats and dreamt of one day creating a sanctuary to give them a safe and loving home. It is an understatement to say that Tom was one of a kind and those that knew him knew that there was no one else out there quite like him. He is preceded in death by both his father: Melvin; and his mother: Sharon. Tom is survived by his younger brother: Trent Hlavac (Courtney Johnston); and his cat and best friend of ten years: Ouija; as well as his two “nephews”: Mackie “Macaroni“ and Frankie “Frankie Frank”.

Services and internment for Tom are being handled privately at the family’s request.
