Terrance L. Desch

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Terry Desch, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and extraordinary educator whose life was defined by service, kindness, and unwavering love for others. He joined his wife: Judy Desch; his parents: Don and Josephine Desch; his brother-in-law: Alan Hughes; and nephew: Ben Desch in heaven on July 11, 2026. We know it was a joyous reunion!

To his children: Ryan Desch (Jackie) of Naperville and Gretchen Heusel (Stacy) of Omaha he was the steady foundation upon which faith, countless memories and deep bonds were built. As a husband, he loved deeply and faithfully, sharing a lifetime of partnership, laughter, and devotion. As a grandfather to Sam Heusel (Taylor) and Max Heusel of Omaha along with Maisie, Annie and Noelle Desch of Naperville, he found immeasurable joy in their lives, offering endless encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love.

To generations of students, he was simply "Mr. D." But to those who had the privilege of sitting in his classroom at Jefferson or Star Elementary in Grand Island, he was so much more than a teacher. He was a mentor, a confidant, and a champion for every student who walked through his door. He believed in people, often seeing potential they had yet to recognize in themselves. Mr. D. consistently went above and beyond. In his classroom and later as a school counselor he created a place where students felt seen, valued, and inspired to become their very best. Many who knew him as "Mr. D." carried his wisdom, kindness, and belief in them long after they left his classroom. He additionally taught for many summers at Stuhr Museum as the School Master, Mark Twain and photography classes.

His legacy is one of selfless service, quiet strength, and genuine compassion. He volunteered as the Shrine Clown “Chipper”, at church and throughout his community. He measured his success by the lives he touched and the people he helped along the way.

Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are forever grateful for the gift of his life. He leaves behind his brothers: Jeff Desch of Colorado, Doug (Sally) Desch of California; sister and brother-in-law and nephews: Jane (Jeff) Ahl of Lincoln, Judy Hughes of AZ and Jason (Morgan) Ahl of Omaha, David Desch of CO; along with countless dear friends. His example reminds us to love generously, serve others wholeheartedly, and always believe in the goodness and potential of those around us.

May we honor his memory by living with the same faith, humility, and kindness that defined every day of his remarkable life.

There will be a Memorial Service 10:30 AM Saturday (8/15/2026) at Waters Edge Church 19600 Harrison St. Gretna, NE 68028 with luncheon to follow.
