Born December 23, 1946 in Rochester NY to Edward and Edna Gorney, passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2016 in Helena MT.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jayne Michelle Riesselman; daughter, Sabrina Rochelle; brother, Kenneth Gorney; sister, Carole Gorney ; mother-in-law, Linda Riesselman; sisters-in-law, Susan Skow, Karin Beck and brother-in-law, Robert Riesselman. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews.
Stewart graduated from Mayer High School in Mayer AZ , May, 1965. He served in First Special Forces Group Airborne, was number one in his graduating class and received an honorable discharge in November, 1966. He graduated from the computer Training Institute in Phoenix AZ in 1967 as a Systems and Procedure Analyst Computer Programmer. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, 1970. He graduated from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine, June 1974. He completed an Internal Medicine Internship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester Minnesota. He completed an Anesthesiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and became Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine.
Stewart was a hard worker, dedicated to his family and his friends, generous to a fault, and will be remembered for his compassion, sense of humor and intellect.
In addition to being an excellent practicing physician, Stewart dedicated most of his life to cancer research, always hoping to find a cure for this insidious disease. Memorial services will occur Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 5419 N. 114th St, Omaha, NE 68164. Mass at 12:00pm with luncheon to follow.
