Steven T. Dunlap, 68, passed away on September 9, 2026, in Omaha, NE. He was born on February 7,1958 to Roger and Mary (Hanley) Dunlap in Lincoln, NE.
Steve graduated from Lincoln High School in 1976, where he was active in musicals - most notably playing Curly in Oklahoma - and competed on the gymnastics and track teams. He was also a dedicated member of Scouts BSA, earning his Eagle Scout rank at age 16. Steve went on to attend the University of Nebraska, where he met his wife, Sally; they were married on June 15, 1985, in Eustis, Nebraska, and made their home in Omaha.
Steve spent many years in the manufacturing industry in Omaha, working for companies such as Lozier and Vickers. Later, before retiring, he opened the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits location at Shadow Lake and served as its Wine and Spirits Manager. During that time he earned his Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) credential through the Society of Wine Educators.
A lifelong sports fan, Steve attended Husker games from childhood and held season tickets since 2005, a tradition passed down from his parents; as a Boy Scout he even worked Husker football games. He cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the Kansas City Chiefs in football, often hosting family and friends to watch games together. He loved competing in fantasy football and baseball leagues, enjoyed a beer with friends at Old Chicago, and collected Husker, Chiefs, and NASCAR memorabilia. Steve inherited a passion for coin collecting from his father, Roger, and delighted in sharing that hobby with his grandchildren. His musical tastes ranged from Pink Floyd (rock) to Andrea Bocelli (classical/opera), and he sang as a tenor with the Clarion Chorale. He also loved golf and treasured time on the course with his son and Sundays spent watching golf tournaments from home.
Above all, Steve loved his family. His grandchildren were his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment with them. He and Sally enjoyed traveling together, hosting Sunday family dinners, and keeping the family tradition of setting up and baking at Christmas. The Fourth of July was a special holiday that brought family together as well. Steve is survived by his dedicated and devoted wife of 41 years: Sally Dunlap; children: Ben (Adela) Dunlap, and Laura (Frank) Bartlett; five grandchildren: Talyn Bartlett, Greyson Bartlett, Remington Bartlett, Leila Solonynka, and Dino Dunlap; brother: Scott (Jane) Dunlap; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great-nephews, along with many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents: Roger and Mary Dunlap; and brother: Michael Dunlap.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18th at Roeder Mortuary in Omaha, NE. Visitation on Thursday, September 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial is at Prospect Hill Cemetery 21901 W Maple Rd, Elkhorn, NE 68022 (located directly behind Reichmuth Funeral Home).
