Shirley Dutton

July 18, 1935 — March 24, 2025

Shirley Dutton

Shirley Dutton was born in Ystradgynlais, South Wales, and attended high school in London, England. She met her husband, Jerry, at a military dance in London, where he was stationed in the United States Air Force. In 1957, Shirley moved from London to Algona, Iowa, where she was married in 1959.

Shirley and Jerry moved to Omaha where they raised their four children, and she proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1964. In addition to being a wonderful mother, Shirley loved a good challenge and took on many household projects through the years. In 1978, she started a part-time job at First Data Resources, which turned into a 20-year career, retiring as their supervisor of accounts receivable in 1997. Although she was retired, Shirley was always busy. She loved participating in her church and volunteering at the Omaha Community Playhouse. Most of all, she loved spending time with the people she loved. Her favorite times were with her friends at bridge club and dinner club gatherings, and with her children and grandchildren relaxing at Woodcliff Lake and attending her grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gerald “Jerry” Dutton. She is survived by her brother, Ronald Brooks, and her children: Gary (Pam), Jan (Dave) Madsen, Robert (Rowena), and Cris (Mark) Ringsdorf. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Allison and Michael Dutton; Drew Madsen (Allie) and Paige Reetz (Jakson); Samantha Dutton; Brook and Camyrn Ringsdorf, and two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Boston.

There will be a luncheon following the service.
