Shirley Ann Duis (Holben) entered into rest January 31, 2026. She was born in Woodbine, Iowa on August 4, 1936, to Wells and Mabelle Holben (Lightwine). Shirley had a big heart and would do anything she could to help a loved one or friend. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from North High School. She loved sports, especially softball and basketball. She married Lester Duis on April 21, 1956, and they became parents of 4 children. Craig, Pam, Paul and Tim. She worked as a mall security guard and also a private detective. Later on in her life she got her CNA license.
She worked at Skyline manor, Methodist Hospital and Parsons House. She was also a Lifetime Member of VFW Post #2503.
She helped to raise a granddaughter and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lester; sons: Craig and Paul Duis; and sister: Sheila Brochu.
She is survived by her daughter: Pam Shields; son: Tim Duis; sister: Sandra Walsh (Robert); grandchildren: Joshua Stone, Melanie Stone (Ian) Justin Stone (Kristen), Alyssia Duis (Adam), Stephanie Croghan (Kyle); great-grandchildren: Katelyn Duis, Alana Contreras and Austin Contreras; Linda Rusk, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Please join us at Forest Lawn Cemetery for a Graveside burial in the family plot at 10:30am Saturday (2/14/2026).
-Family and friends that are planning on attending the Graveside service, please be at Forest Lawn Cemetery by 10am and park in the parking lot. When we get there, we will line up and proceed to the Gravesite. All vehicles and motorcycles are welcome.
There will be a gathering of remembrance at 11:00am Saturday (2/14/2026) at the VFW Post 2503 8904 Military Rd.
