10/12/1939 - 2/18/2022 Omaha - Shirley Ann Rettig was born October 12, 1939, in Atlantic Iowa. She attended schools in the Cumberland/Atlantic area. She graduated from Atlantic High School before moving to Omaha, NE to attend Commercial Extension School of Business. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry H Saville and Hazel M Saville Oehler, brother Larry Savile, first husband Gerald A Barmettler, and husband John Rettig. She is survived by her five children and their spouses. Lori L Johnson, Brian A Barmettler, Timothy J Barmettler and wife JoAnn, Lisa A Holdorf and husband Kregg, and Scott J Barmettler. Two stepchildren Bambi L Heckerman and Tom Rettig. Eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.  Brothers Lloyd Saville and wife Paulette, and Ken Saville and wife Karen. Shirley was described as sweet and loving person who always had a smile on her face. She had a tremendous gift to make everyone she knew feel valued and loved. She was an extraordinary caregiver and put the needs of others before herself. Shirley was always on the go, enjoying the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends. She took special joy in watching and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved having her whole family together for special events or just because. The laughter and voices throughout the house gave her great joy even during her last days. Shirley passed surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Although she will be greatly missed, she will live on in the hearts and memories of those she loved and those who loved her. Shirley had a deep faith and was a devote parishioner of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She left a handwritten note in her bible of the following bible verse. 2 Timothy 4:7. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race.
