Ronald B. Roeder

Ronald Bruce Gibson Roeder passed away peacefully at home December 13th, 2024 at the age of 92. Ron was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 22nd, 1932 to Ted & Arlia Roeder. Ron moved with his family to Omaha in 1943 when his father partnered with Mrs. Haynes to co-own Haynes & Roeder funeral home on North 24th Street.

He attended high school at Omaha North before attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completing his education at the College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, California. While a Viking at North High, he would meet the love of his life, Beverly (Becky) Jean Fuglei. They were married for 63 years and raised 4 daughters, Leigh Ann, Lynn, Lori, and Leslie. The term these days for Ron was a “girl” dad, and he was an early adopter and complete embodiment of that definition.

He would lead by example in teaching his girls the importance of family, education, church, work ethic and respect for all. Ron’s character of a true gentleman would never waver, starting first and foremost with the consistent way he would treat his life partner, Becky. He was a pillar of strength for his entire family in the way he carried himself and offered his love and support until his final days.

Ron joined his father Ted and older brother Norman in the family business in 1953. With Ron’s leadership and guidance, they would grow their company by opening 50th & Ames Mortuary in 1961 and then 108th Maple chapel in 1988. Ron served as President of Roeder Mortuary and enjoyed every day of his career. He felt it was such an honor to be able to help others at such a difficult time in their families lives and took such pride in his family business.

His love of sports began through his successes on the field or court at North High, winning many city and state awards, propelling him onwards to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Sports were always a big part of his life, no matter if he was playing, watching or cheering his teams on, a passion he passed along to his daughters. Golf became his true love and he and his wife Becky played together until they were in their 80’s. Ron was Senior Champion at Omaha Country Club four times but was never one to boast. His girls did it for him, proudly proclaiming their father’s six hole in ones, and their mother Becky’s three.

Ron and Becky loved to travel and visited many places state side and abroad during their life together; however, their favorite place to go was Hawaii. They returned to Maui each winter along with a large group of friends to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian weather, but mostly to golf the Hawaiian links. Lake Okoboji, Iowa was another favorite destination for the Roeder family, a place they would visit every summer. Their love of this lake was passed down to their children and grandchildren.

Ron was on the Board of Directors at Omaha Home for Boys and also on the board of Omaha Country Club. He was involved in the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association as well as a Tangier Shriner and deacon of Mount View Presbyterian church.

No matter where one’s path crossed with Ron, you were guaranteed to interact with a man of high integrity, quick wit, and a great sense of humor. The same love and respect he held for everyone is more than reciprocated by each of those lucky enough to have been in his life. His legacy will carry on through his vast impact, starting directly with his family who loved and adored him. He will be more than missed by so many.

Ron is preceded in death by wife of 63 years Becky; daughters: Leigh Ann Roeder & Leslie Roeder Beller; parents: Ted & Arlia; brother: Norm. He is survived by daughters: Lynn D (Todd) Sorensen, Lori K. Roeder, son-in-law: Don Beller; grandchildren: Libby (Chris) Bruscino, Carissa (Andrew) Loughrey, Mitchell Beller & Bradley Beller; great-grandchildren: Gia & Joe Bruscino, Lucy & Conrad Loughrey.

A Celebration of Life for Ron will be held at a later date.
