Ron’s story began at Holy Ghost Grade School and continued at South High School, where he proudly became a South Omaha Boy (S.O.B), Class of 1966. Not long after, he answered the call to serve his country and was drafted into the Army, serving honorably from 1968 to 1970.
Ron and Lizz were high school sweethearts, beginning a love story that would span a lifetime. They were married on November 30th, 1968, and in 2025 celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Together, they shared 61 beautiful years side by side; years filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Their first home was a small apartment in Manhattan, Kansas, where they began building their family. Sherri Ann was born in Fort Riley, Kansas. Eventually, they returned to Omaha, where their family grew with the births of Lynn Marie, Ronald Lee Jr., Jon Stuart—born sleeping—and Megan Kaye. Through joy and heartbreak, Ron remained a steady presence, always centered on family.
Ron was blessed with six grandchildren: Noah, Alexandria, Penelope, Grayson, Kennedy, and Ira. He couldn’t spoil them enough. Being a family man was not just who Ron was; it was his purpose. We were his world, and he made sure we always knew it.
Music was one of Ron’s greatest loves. He played the saxophone and sounded just like Boots Randolph, earning him the title of my “Yakety Sax Man.” The Beatles were always his favorite, and he made sure that not only our children, but our grandchildren too, would love their music as much as he did.
Ron also loved his Westerns, with Roy Rogers holding a special place in his heart. Halloween was his favorite holiday. He loved monsters-especially the motion-detected ones that kept everyone on edge, never knowing when one would suddenly go off. Pumpkin carving contests became serious business, competitive and full of laughter, and Ron loved nothing more than watching all of us together.
Christmas was another cherished season. Some years included ugly sweater contests—one year, with a little help from Lizz, he took first place. Christmas night Bingo became a tradition, with Ron as the caller. There may or may not have been alcohol involved, but there was always joy, laughter, and love filling the room.
We could go on and on—there are so many stories and memories. Ron filled our lives with warmth, music, humor, and unconditional love. He will live on in our hearts forever.
