Robert Morris Whitehead

He grew up on the homesteaded Whitehead farm located off of Redfern Table. While just a child he contracted rheumatic and scarlet fevers. He was given exact amounts of strychnine to fight the fever, luckily Robert survived that illness. He met his wife, Merle Krenz in Merna, where his family had moved to farm. They married in 1944 while Robert was on leave from the Navy, which he had just joined. He sailed on a ship to Okinawa and went to Manilla in the Philippines and visited mainland Japan after the Japanese had surrendered. Robert and Merle moved to Omaha, Nebraska. They bought a house and proceeded to have five children; Paul, Dale, Rita, Mark and Julie. He worked 25 years for the post office as a clerk, retiring in 1987. His hobbies were working on cars, home projects, bicycling, golf, bowling and yard work. Robert was preceded in death by mother; Julia Whitehead of Callaway, father; Edgar Whitehead of Callaway and by his brother; Lewis Olson of Oklahoma City, OK. He lost his wife Merle in 2003 after 59 years of marriage. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 5 th at Roeder Mortuary, 4932 Ames Ave. Interment with Military Honors at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
