"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." — Isaiah 40:31

Robert “Bob” Reichwein, age 77, of Omaha, Nebraska, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 18, 1948, in Omaha to Robert and Juanita (Lindquist) Reichwein, Bob lived a life marked by unwavering faith, deep devotion to family, and a humble heart committed to serving others. His life reflected the truth of Isaiah 40:31 — that those who place their hope in the Lord are renewed and lifted up.

Bob spent his early years in east Omaha before moving to Surprise, Nebraska, where he lived with his Grandma Reichwein and Great-Grandma Greenslit. These formative years, though not without challenges, became a treasured part of his story, shaping a faith that would sustain him throughout his life.

As a young teen, he was placed at the Omaha Home for Boys, where he learned the values of hard work, humility, and compassion. A proud graduate of Omaha Benson High School’s Class of 1966, University of Nebraska - Omaha 1977, Bob carried these lessons into adulthood, living each day with integrity and faithfulness.

He went on to dedicate 40 years to the National Guard, serving both as an officer and as an enlisted soldier, retiring as a Captain. Throughout his decades of service, he earned not only numerous awards and recognitions and held a variety of leadership roles—including serving as a company commander—but also the deep respect of those who worked alongside him. His leadership was steady, his guidance trusted, and his commitment unwavering.

Even after retiring from military service, he wasn’t done giving back. He continued to support service members and their families through the Nebraska National Guard Family Assistance Program, offering the same compassion, strength, and reliability that defined his entire career.

While at Benson, Bob met the love of his life, Sharon. They were married on May 18, 1968, at St. Paul Methodist Church in Omaha, beginning 57 years of shared life — navigating both joys and challenges together, always guided by their faith in God.

Bob and Sharon were blessed with two daughters, Robin and Shawn, who brought immense joy to his life. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he led with gentle strength, quiet wisdom, and unwavering love. To his children and grandchildren, Bob was a source of encouragement, a living example of God’s grace, and a model of steadfast faith.

He will be remembered as a man whose faith was evident in all he did through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, and a heart devoted to serving others. Whether lending a helping hand, sharing memorable wisdom, or simply being present with loved ones, Bob reflected Christ’s love in every part of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Phyllis, Karna, Alice, and Larry; and many cherished loved ones who now rejoice with him in the Lord’s presence.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; daughters, Robin Reichwein and Shawn (Brad) Vandenberg; grandchildren, Colton (Riley) Morris, Sierra (Josh) Stinnette, Savannah (Nathaniel) Ethridge, Faith Vandenberg, and Isaac Vandenberg; brothers, Richard and Chuck Reichwein; and numerous extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Roeder Mortuary (2727 N. 108th Street) on Wednesday, November 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held the next day, Thursday, November 20 at 9:00 am (also at Roeder Mortuary) , with interment and military honors to follow at 11:00 at The National Cemetery (14250 Schram Road). Though his earthly journey has ended, Bob’s legacy of faith, love, and service continues through all the lives he touched.
