Richard Thomas "Dick" Phelan, 82, passed away November 11, 2024 in Omaha. Dickie was the youngest of four children born to Raymond and Margret ("Dolly") Phelan in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on December 25, 1941. He attended grade school and high school at Cathedral in Sioux Falls and he spent his youth working at the family-owned grocery store, Summit Grocery. He graduated from Creighton University where he made life-long friends and there began his love of Creighton basketball. After college, Dick capitalized on his experiences at the family grocery store with a very successful career in the wholesale food sales industry. After an early retirement from Kraft General Foods, Dick enjoyed playing the markets, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Dick was also very proud of and loved his Irish heritage. One of his favorite memories was a trip to Ireland with Mary Jo and his sister, Mary, where he got to kiss the Blarney Stone. He also loved and supported his children. Dick was a very generous person.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by brother: Denis; sister: Mary; and infant sister: Patricia. He is survived by wife of 33 years: Mary Jo; son: Michael; daughter: Patricia,  all of Omaha; step-children: Marsi (Jeff) Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Todd Linder (Missy Peters) of Omaha, Steve Linder (Michelle) of Sterling Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren: Trevor Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and Max Linder; and many nieces and nephews. 

There will be a Visitation 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday with a Funeral Service 1:00 PM Saturday (11/23/2024) at Roeder Mortuary 2727 N. 108th St. Omaha, NE.
