Richard Warren Mills, born May 10th, 1946 to Warren L. and Myra B. (Amidon) Mills in Omaha, Nebraska. Died August 14th, 2024 at home in Herman, Nebraska.
His family moved to Springfield, Nebraska in 1961 and he attended Platteview Jr. Sr. High. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as a teenager and carried those passions with him through most of his life.
Richard was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. He spent the majority of his military career spanning 1966-1968 with the 3rd Armored Division and was stationed in Germany. There he volunteered for a special assignment, which turned out to be classified missions supporting the offensive in Vietnam.
Richard was married to Loretta (Krajicek) on June 10th, 1967. Their only son, Timothy Warren Mills, was born Sept. 9th, 1974.
Richard spent most of his career as a sought-after automotive mechanic at a number of car dealerships and auto repair centers around Omaha. He met his second wife, Pamela (Swope) Mills while working at John Kraft Chevrolet. They married on May 19th, 1984. This union brought two step children, Tami (Matthes) Carlson and Brent Matthes, into his life.
HIs craft was also his hobby. Richard built and owned countless cars and motorcycles over the course of his life. He often had multiple projects he was working on at once.
Having tired of the hustle and bustle of Omaha, Rich and Pam moved to Herman, Nebraska in 1991. After the move, he expanded his career into industrial maintenance working on everything from hydraulic pumps to food processing equipment. He took great pride in turning their two acres into a park-like setting; planting fruit trees and keeping the lawn meticulously mowed.
He is survived by his wife Pam; son Timothy (Melanie) Mills; step-daughter Tami (Cliff) Carlson; stepson Brent Matthes; grandchildren Addison and Ellianna Mills, Alyssia Meyers, Breyden and Natalie Matthes and great-grandchildren Kinsley, Aria and Ava Meyers.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, Aug 21st between 5 and 7 pm at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N 108th Street in Omaha.
A Funeral service will be held Thursday August 22nd at 10 am also at Roeder Mortuary.
His finally resting place will be Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd in Omaha.
