Richard D. Allerheiligen

1/13/1941 - 6/17/2021 Omaha - Richard Dean Allerheiligen was born 01-13-41 to Walter Henry Allerheiligen and Anna Dorthea Allerheiligen in Marysville, Kansas. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1958. He worked for Safeway grocery store in Marysville after high school. He joined the National Guard in 1963 and served until 1969. He married Sharon Ann Krous on April 12, 1964 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, Kansas. They relocated to Glenwood, Iowa, where he managed the Safeway grocery store until 1975. For the next two years, Sharon and he managed the Gambles Hardware Store in Glenwood. He then worked at the Kwik Shop gas station and drove the School Bus for Glenwood Community School District for 25 years. He continued driving the bus when he went to work at the Glenwood State Hospital School where he managed the canteen from 1979 to 2002, when he retired. They had two daughters, Angela Sue and Julie Ann. Rich and Sharon were both very active with the girls’ activities. Rich would drive the bus for their activities, including band and sports. They served together as Vice Presidents and eventually as Presidents of the Glenwood Band Parents for a total of 6 years. They especially enjoyed organizing the band carnivals and homecoming coronations together. In 2002, Rich and Sharon retired and moved from Glenwood to Omaha, Nebraska to be closer to their daughters and granddaughters. They looked after their granddaughters, Shelby Ann and Alyssa Paige Betterton, during their younger years. Both Grandpa and Grandma spent many hours chauffeuring to school and extracurricular activities. Rich even volunteered at the girls’ school , both in the office and to help serve lunches. In 2009, he worked part-time for Target at the 72nd and Sorensen location in Omaha, where he met many great co-workers and enjoyed serving the customers he encountered until October of 2017. Rich and Sharon were members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Glenwood, where he was a deacon. Upon moving to Omaha, they joined King of Kings Lutheran Church, where Rich served as a usher and counted weekend offerings. Rich was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Marysville and a member of the Optimist Club in Glenwood. He especially enjoyed gardening, fixing things around the house, his outdoor Christmas decorating, working on his computer, and in his later years, watching college sports. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sharon. He is survived by his brother LaVern Allerheiligen of Marysville, Kansas, daughters Angela Allerheiligen and Julie Betterton, granddaughters Shelby and Alyssa Betterton all of Omaha, special friends of 55 years, Don and Wanda Mathison of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many other beloved family and friends.
