Randy L. Henke

Randy Lee Henke, 69, passed away on September 17, 2024. Born on March 28, 1955, in Fairbury, Nebraska, he dedicated his life to serving his country and his family.

Randy was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife: Karen (Leise); and a loving father to his two daughters: Karisa (Johnson) and Jennifer (Potmesil). Randy found joy in being a grandfather to his four grandchildren: Jacob and Cody Potmesil, and Miranda and Thure Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, daughters and grandchildren, son-in-law: Fred Potmesil; and brother: Rex Henke; and is preceded in death by his parents: Arley and Delores Henke; sister: Gwenda Orwen; and nephews and niece: Todd, Brian, and Kimberly Krajnik.

An avid outdoorsman, Randy loved hunting and cherished the beauty of Colorado. He was never idle and his retirement from the Air Force allowed him time to explore his other talents for sales, reclaiming and repurposing barn wood, and designing and building timber-frame homes for him and Karen to live in in Nebraska and Estes Park, Colorado. He was a dedicated Nebraska football fan and a collector of shiny objects, books about the Civil War, and stories of doubtful veracity to share with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband and father, and he exemplified the values of patriotism and family.

Randy's warmth, humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A visitation with family to reminisce and celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 2, 2024 at Roeder Mortuary, 11710 Standing Stone Drive, Gretna, NE 68028. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice in remembrance of Randy.
