Randal E. (Randy) Bergstrom

Randal (Randy) Edward Bergstrom, 74, of Omaha passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 unexpectedly due to heart complications. Randy was born in Omaha NE to Jack and Gwen (Larsen) Bergstrom June 23, 1949. He and his family moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin when he was 7 years old where he met his future wife Laurie. After high school graduation, he attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and the University of Nebraska Omaha. He married Laurie at St. Joe’s Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin on May 11, 1974. They lived in Omaha Nebraska where Randy began his much loved career in Purchasing Management and started a family. He enjoyed soccer and became a certified referee for the state of Nebraska and was very involved in his church and his children’s schools.

Randy retired from Deco Tool and Supply Company in 2016 and happily entered retirement to become busier than he was when he worked full time. Randy set out to work volunteering for multiple organizations including the TeamMates Mentoring Program at St. James/Seton School and Bennington High School, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Parish Council, Funeral Committee, Catechist of the Good Shepard where he was known as Mr. Randy, and the Knights of Columbus (he took great pride in being a charter member as well as a 3rd degree and 4th degree Knight); Santa’s helper in bringing joy to so many young children and families every December, secretary for the South Omaha Golf League, treasurer for the Omaha Philatelic Society and member of the Lincoln Stamp Club, and current president of the Rambleridge Homeowners Association.

Randy loved his family dearly and enjoyed traveling with Laurie on various Catholic pilgrimages and all around Europe. He played golf with his son Ben and enjoyed golfing with many other friends in a Tuesday/Thursday golf league. He was an avid fan of all sports Olivia, James, and Wesley played and was a professional “FaceTimer” with Megan and her family and enjoyed trips to Massachusetts to be with them. Throughout his life he was active member in his profession, his community, and church… always leaving things better than how he found it.

He is preceded in death by parents Jack and Gwen Bergstrom, John and Eunice McCormick, his youngest brother Gary Bergstrom, and grandson Jonas (Jonie B) Fennell. Randy is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Laurie (McCormick) Bergstrom, son Ben Bergstrom and his wife Samantha and their children Olivia and James, daughter Megan Bergstrom and her husband Kieran Fennell and their children Wesley, Gwenie, and Mirren (Sunshine), brother Alan and sister Jackie, brothers-in-law John and Tim, sister in-law Jane and their families as well as many cherished friends.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He will be missed.
