Mother Ocie Lee Lambert Perkins was born September 28, 1936 in Bearden, Arkansas to the union of Hughie and Lena Gregory-Lambert. She was the ninth of eleven children born into the Lambert Family. Ocie was educated in the Arkansas School System. On September 26, 1959, she married the love of her life, George Perkins. With this union, they were blessed with four children.
Ocie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Upon moving to Omaha, Nebraska she united with the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Rev. D. J. Green.
In the early sixties she became a member of the Zion Wheel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. H. Webb; she served as Church Treasurer, Culinary Chairman, Mission President, Choir Member and District President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Iowa Western District.
In the early seventies the Lord led her to move her membership back to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Felix Jones.
A God fearing woman, Ocie was a faithful and active member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over forty-years. She enjoyed serving as past President of the Mothers/Deaconess Ministry, Treasurer of the Mothers/Deaconess Ministry, past President of the Mission Ministry, past President of the Inspirational Choir and Sunday-School. She was a faithful worker in the New Era Baptist State Convention of NE Inc., Women’s Auxiliary serving on the Calling Tree Committee, she also served as Treasure of the Baptist Minister’s Wives. Ocie’s love and devotion for God and Church were the guiding source of her faith in her life.
Ocie had a great passion for cooking and baking. She was known for her cakes especially her pound cake. Her children and grandchildren considered her the “best cook and baker” in Omaha. Her joy was preparing for holiday feasts and having special dinners for church members, friends and the less fortunate. Her goal was to make sure you felt more than welcome when you broke bread with her at her table.
