Nora L. Patterson

Minister Nora Lee Patterson, affectionately known as “Loretta,” entered into eternal rest on July 16, 2026, at the age of 75, in Chicago, Illinois. She was born on July 5, 1951, in Castleberry, Alabama, to the late David Mosby and Daisy Ruth (Mosby) Montgomery.

Nora was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, minister, caregiver, and faithful servant of God whose life reflected compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. She was deeply family-oriented and dedicated her life to caring for those she loved. She faithfully cared for her mother during her later years and lovingly served as the primary caregiver for her husband during his illness. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she welcomed and raised other children, embracing them with the same love and care as her own.

Minister Patterson was one of the original members of God’s Missionary Baptist Church, where her faithful service spanned many years until she became ill. She served in numerous leadership roles, including First Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee, Trustee Board Member, Usher, President of the Trustee board, and Minister. She also faithfully served in the church’s hospitality ministry, regularly visited the sick and shut-in, and ministered alongside Apostle Mayberry through the prison ministry. Her steadfast commitment to serving God and others earned her recognition from both the Mayor and the Commissioner for her outstanding ministry and community service.

Those who knew Nora will forever remember her favorite saying, “But God,” a phrase that reflected the faith she carried through every season of life. Her strength, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering trust in God inspired countless lives.

Nora was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Ray Patterson; her parents, David Mosby and Daisy Ruth Montgomery; her brother’s Jimmy Carter, James Carter and John Carter Mosby; and her grandson, Michael Marcell Patterson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Sandra Nicole Patterson (Derrick Watlington), Michelle Patterson, and Delores Kimble.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Cieara Patterson, Asha Clere (Anthony Clere), DeDra Watlington, Alanea Johnson-Patterson, Taylor Lee-Ann Patterson, Liana Patterson, Nevaeh Winsley, Terrell Young, Jaylen Gould (Emma Gould).

Her legacy continues through her treasured great-grandchildren: Amare Marcell King, Kayden Carter King, Jelani Jupiter Patterson, Reese Patterson, Noah Henderson, Avery Nicole Clere, Giovanni Clere, Myla Rue Clere, and Jeremiah Clere and Myra Corrine Gould.

She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law’s Ellen Carter, Nan Carter and Hattie Mosby and a host of extended family members, church family, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Minister Nora Lee “Loretta” Patterson lived a life defined by service, compassion, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and selfless devotion that will continue to inspire generations to come.
