Nancy Jean Andersen was born in Mankato, MN on July 16th, 1960 to Ronald and Delores (née Janousek) Nimps. She had four siblings: Roger (1959), Gary (1962), Julie (1964), and Tom (1974).
Nancy graduated from Northwest High School, in Omaha NE in 1978 and then attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln before marriage and motherhood.
Nancy was married to Bruce Hemmer from 1980 to 1995, and they had three sons: Brian (1982), Steven (1983), and Jeffrey (1985).
She worked as a teacher’s assistant, motivated by her interest in the education her sons received.
As a single mom, she bought her first house in 1998 and continued to raise her sons. She worked as a server and then as manager for Valentino’s. And in February of 1998, she started with Mutual of Omaha as a Customer Service Representative, moving up to Human Resources in August of 2012. She retired from Mutual of Omaha in November of 2022.
Nancy and Chad met on December 5th, 2004 and were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church on September 3rd, 2005. Together they enjoyed gardening, home improvement, family vacations and spending time with their family, especially their grandkids.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who battled breast cancer for 29 years. She fought the good fight until September 16th, 2024.
Nancy is preceded in death by her sister-in-law: Chris Nimps (Gary). She is survived by her husband: Chad; parents: Ron and Delores; siblings: Roger (wife: Alison), Gary (fiancée: Norma), Julie (husband: Brian), and Tom (husband: Robert); sons: Brian (wife: Amanda), Steven (wife: Melissa), Jeffrey (wife: Carrie); adopted son: Amed; grandchildren: Aubrey and Ezekiel (Steve), Julia, Charles, and Owen (Jeffrey), Addy and Bryce – due 11/1/24 – (Brian); and countless nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Nancy was so grateful for her amazing care team at Immanuel Cancer Center. She considered Dr. Renno and the nursing staff family and loved them dearly.
A visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday (9/23/2024) at Roeder Mortuary 108th Street Chapel. Memorial Service 11:00 AM Tuesday (9/24/2024) at Saint John Lutheran Church 633 Willow Ave. Council Bluffs, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
