Merlin F. McRoberts (Mel)

10/28/1933 - 9/28/2020 Omaha - Merlin McRoberts was born to Floyd and Lena McRoberts on October 28, 1933 in Atkinson, NE.   He grew up in Seward and Litchfield, NE.    Mel enjoyed hunting, farming and racing cars with friends.  At the age of 18, Mel was drafted into the Korean War.   After a short time, he was called home to take over the farm when his father fell ill.    Mel married Virginia Spotanski on January 5 ^th 1957 at Lady of Mount Carmel in Paplin, Ne.  They were blessed with two children: Scott and Holly.   They raised their family in Omaha, Ne. Mel spent his next 40 years working numerous positions at Sears and Roebuck.  He managed the houseware and automotive departments, but his favorite position was working in the warehouse as a furniture and appliance delivery driver.   Many humorous stories and great memories were created during his years at Sears.  After “retiring” he spent the next 15 years as a maintenance man at Child Savings Institute.  Mel was a jack of all trades, he could create, build and repair just about anything.  If you needed a tool, Mel always had it.   His summers would be spent crafting and vacationing in the mountains with family and friends. His greatest joys were his grandchildren Britney and Matthew.   He loved being their chauffeur and attending all their events.    Mel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virgie, children Scott, Holly Finnigan, grandchildren Britney & Travis McLaughlin, Matthew Finnigan and many family and friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lela Grothe, Nelda Barenberg and Orva Jean Turner. The family will receive friends and family, Friday October 2nd from 9:30 - 10:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, St. Joan Of Arc 3122 S. 74th St. Omaha, NE.
