Melvyn A. Wittmaack (Mel)

September 1, 1959 — August 14, 2025

Melvyn A. Wittmaack (Mel)

Gretna - Survived by: his wife Tory Wittmaack, daughter Alysia Gawrick (Steven), brother Robert Wittmaack (Lynelle), sister Krista Wittmaack. Grandchildren Owen, Oliver & Stevie Leigh Gawrick, Amelia & Jackson Jepson, Mason, Landon & Eli Turner. Nephews Jordan & Jason Mendez, Jacob & William Wittmaack. Forever friend Tricia Blubaugh.

In lieu of flowers or memorials, Mel asked that you plant a memorial tree in a place of your choosing or through the Arbor Day Foundation. Alternatively, Mel established (upon his passing) a specific scholarship for youth runners to be administered via the Lincoln Track Club. Of note, Mel established the Wittmaack Charitable Foundation in 1998. Over the years, it has provided scholarships and financial assistance for the many youth education & athletic programs he was passionate about. In this spirit, scholarship donations should be directed to the Wittmaack Charitable Foundation, 21339 Blackstone Cir, Gretna, NE 68028. Contributions will be forwarded to the Lincoln Track Club for disbursement.

Family and guests of the memorial service are all encouraged to wear summer casual/sportswear – you’re everyday sportswear! Mel wouldn’t want everyone to put on suits – he loves you all for who you are and how he knew you. Wear your jerseys, polos, running T-Shirts, khakis - whatever you think Mel would smile at.

A Celebration of Life will be held directly following the memorial service at Lincoln Place Park. The park has been reserved for our private event, and includes parking, picnic shelters, playground, walking trail, and of course, a baseball field. We plan on playing a couple of innings of baseball in his honor (bring a glove if you have one!), Food and beverages will be provided. It will be a time of sharing stories (bring them!) and most of all, connecting. True, meaningful connection have always been so vitally important to Mel; he would be so joyous to know that his peeps connected and possibly forged new lifetime friendships with each other.
