Melody J. Halldorson

Melody Halldorson, 77, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 17, 1948, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Melody was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was known for her steady presence, her kindness, and the way she made people feel welcomed and cared for. She had a strong and generous spirit, always putting others before herself and creating lasting relationships with those around her.

At the center of Melody’s life was her husband, Bruce, whom she met while they were both attending Benson High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Beginning as high school sweethearts, they shared 56 years of marriage built on a foundation that began in their teenage years and grew into a lifelong partnership defined by love, commitment, and unwavering support. Through every stage of life, they stood side by side—offering strength in difficult times and sharing in the joy of everyday moments. They were truly each other’s rock, with a bond that was constant, steady, and deeply rooted, reflecting a love that endured and strengthened over time.

Horses and horse shows were a central part of Melody’s life and a shared passion that brought her family together across generations. Alongside her daughter, Rachel, her sister, Sonja, her niece, Sarah Kaczmarek, and her mother, Myrtle, she spent countless weekends at shows, creating a tradition rooted in dedication, connection, and time spent together. What began as a hobby became a lasting family bond—one that carried through the years and into the lives of her daughter and others she welcomed along the way. Those long days at the barn and showgrounds were filled with laughter, support, and a sense of togetherness that defined some of her most meaningful memories.

She shared a special bond with her daughter, Rachel, built through years of time spent together, including countless weekends at horse shows and everyday moments that became lifelong memories. Melody’s love extended beyond her family, as she became a second mom to many of Rachel’s friends growing up and to others who were fortunate to know her.

She is survived by her husband: Bruce Halldorson; her daughter: Rachel Balkovec (Steve); her grandson: Drew Balkovec; her sister: Sonja Cox (Ken); and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Eugene and Myrtle Berhow.

Melody’s legacy is one of love, strength, and quiet generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on through the family and friends she cherished.
