Matthew Alan Reiff, age 61, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on February 24, 1964, in Denison, Iowa.
Matthew was raised in Manilla, Iowa, where he graduated from Manilla High School with the Class of 1982. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from March 1984 until June 1988, receiving an honorable discharge. During his service aboard the USS Duncan (FFG-10), an Oliver Hazard Perry–class guided-missile frigate, Matthew traveled extensively, visiting 15 countries. His military service was a source of deep pride and remained an important part of his identity throughout his life. During his service, Matthew was awarded the Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon and the Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon.
Matthew made his home in Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked for Prudential Insurance for many years before retiring in 2022.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Stephen Reiff. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Margaret Reiff (née Brosnahan) of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; his best friend and partner, Trudy Galligo of Omaha, Nebraska; and his siblings: Mark Reiff (Kimberly) of Omaha, Nebraska; Debbie Vennink (Jon) of Ellston, Iowa; Julie Rauterkus (Sam) of Manilla, Iowa; and Roger Reiff (Michelle) of Boone, Iowa.
Matthew is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jeremy Vennink (Brandi), Joni Ahrenholtz (Andy), Sean Rauterkus (Lindsay), Seth Rauterkus (Crystal), Jenae Michaelsen (Mark), Adam Reiff, Ashley Reiff (Tyler), Kiley Vetter (Kyle), MeKenzie Anderson (Brian), and Parker Reiff. He also leaves behind many other great nieces and nephews, along with numerous friends who will miss him dearly. Additional survivors include his aunts and uncles: Katy Freeman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; James Brosnahan of Omaha, Nebraska; Peg Shelton of Des Moines, Iowa; and Bill and Judy Reiff of Callaway, Nebraska.
Matthew was Catholic and carried his faith throughout his life.
Like his father, Matthew was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He also closely followed Nebraska football, cheered for the Chicago Bears, and was a loyal Creighton Blue Jays fan, enjoying the traditions, rivalries, and camaraderie that came with each season.
