Mary Schelhaas was born to Floyd and Mary Steenstra April 14, 1958, in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was the third of five siblings and grew up in rural Holland, Minnesota. Mary attended Ruthton, Minnesota, High School and graduated in 1976. Mary married Arly Schelhaas July 30, 1976, in Edgerton, Minnesota, where they raised two children, Chase and Shaina, and made their home in Edgerton for over 40 years.
She was our wife, our mom, our grandma, our encourager, our Naturopath, our business partner, our life of every party, who by her words and actions showed us how to be true followers of Jesus. Mary was constantly praying for us and has always ALWAYS seen the best in each one of us.
Mary loved her grandchildren with every ounce of her being and was in the room for every one of their births. It is incredibly difficult to think of them growing up without her here.
Mary was best known for her infectious laugh and smile that lit up a room. She loved going on trips and staying up all night laughing, giggling and loving life. As everyone else would be getting tired and sleepy, she would keep the questions and conversation going as she never got tired and wanted to keep the good times rolling all night. Mary cherished her family vacations, especially those on the beach in Florida.
We know that she would encourage each of you to slow down and make unforgettable memories with your loved ones. Also, take time to listen to what the Lord is saying and let Him guide your path.
Mary made friends wherever she went, truly making the most out of every moment. Whether standing in line for a conference or event, or in the grocery store, she had an amazing gift to connect to people.
Mary continued her education all of her life, mastering spiritual, physical and emotional healing for others. Every day she lived to help her family, friends and clients. She was a great listener, and only offered advice if you asked for it. Mary attended countless trainings and conferences to continue her learning journey and lived every moment to the fullest. Mary’s institutional education culminated with her Doctor of Naturopathy August 14, 2020. She continued to use every extra minute reading books, researching, listening to podcasts and watching videos to become more knowledgeable every day.
Mary had a tremendous gift for healing others, and she helped so many people on their wellness journey . We researched endlessly and found doctors all over the nation to help these last three months; however, we never truly found someone who was as gifted in so many areas as she was. Mary had many gifts, but we remember her for always encouraging us, no matter how gloomy the situation. She always had a tremendous ability to positively lift people up, especially her family and friends. She was also an amazing gift giver. There are many items that each of us hold onto, and as we go about our days, it is amazing to consider how many of the things we truly cherish were gifts from her. Above all, Mary spoke with and battled for the Lord every day.
Mary passed peacefully into the Lord’s arms July 6, 2022, at the age of 64 years surrounded by her family. Her family is truly heartbroken and at a loss for words. It is hard to really describe how much this incredible woman meant to us. She dedicated her life to God, her family, and transforming the lives of others. We are so thankful for not only our family, but our church family and all the prayers, support and encouragement. We truly do not know where we would be without that support and our faith. Please keep our family in your prayers – we miss her so much.
Many of us had visions and dreams of her complete healing and restoration throughout this journey. We would appreciate if you would share any visions and dreams you may have had during this difficult time.
Mary is survived by her mother, Mary Steenstra, siblings Mike, Charlie , Lori Curott and Loren , her husband, Arly, her children, Chase and Shaina Armstrong, and her six grandchildren, Ariella, Abram, Annalise, Joseph, Gracie, and Elyjah, and many, many other friends and family members.
