Mark W. Schaffer

Gretna - Mark William Schaffer, 66, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at Cedar Creek of Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Omaha Nebraska.

Mark was born to Arnold and Jacqueline Schaffer on May 10, 1957, in Midland, Michigan. He graduated from Herbert Henry Dow High School in Midland, Michigan, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Driven by a passion for education, Mark went on to earn a master’s degree from University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, solidifying his commitment to intellectual growth.

He married Tina Allbery on May 23, 1987, and went on to raise three children, Christopher, Courtney, and Chelsea. Family and friends will forever cherish the memories of Mark's laughter, his wisdom, and the genuine connections he formed with everyone he met.

Mark's professional life was characterized by diligence, drive, and excellence. His work as an Industrial Hygiene Specialist and Land Use Planner, led him to a successful career spanning countless clients and projects across the country. He touched the lives of those who worked around him with his infectious enthusiasm, ethic, and caring nature.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and sports. Growing up, Mark had the privilege to live and visit numerous foreign countries including Zurich, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. His world travels sparked an interest in geography and propelled him into a field which enabled him to work on his passion. Mark’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Mark is proceeded in death by his parents Arnold and Jacqueline; grandparents Russell and Louise Tucker and William and Mary Schaffer; granddaughter Hannah Jo Leggott; and nephew T.J. Mannausa.

He is survived by his wife Tina; children Christopher (Kayla), Courtney Salisbury, and Chelsea (Shea) Leggott; granddaughters Madilynn, Olivia, and Claire; sister Vicky (Mark) DeMaio; uncle Tom (Deanna) Tucker; brother-in-law John (Leslie) Allbery; and many other family and friends.

A Visitation and Funeral Service to celebrate Mark’s life will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (508 Angus St. Gretna, NE). The Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2024, from 5:00 - 6:30 PM, with a Vigil Service at 6:30 PM. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Interment Elkhorn Cemetery. 

Memorials in Mark’s honor should be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
