With deep love and reverence, we celebrate the life of Mark Steven Anderson. Born on March 26, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska, Mark was the seventh of nine children born to the late Robert and Pinka (Ryan) Anderson. From the very beginning, he was surrounded by a strong sense of family, which shaped the man he would become. As a young boy, Mark found joy in following his older brothers and sisters, learning from them, laughing with them, and developing a lifelong appreciation for connection, unity, and love.
Mark’s spiritual foundation was established early in life. He accepted Christ as a preteen and was baptized by the honorable Reverend Roy W. Johnson at Mount Calvary Community Church. His faith remained a steady and guiding force throughout his life, grounding him in purpose and strengthening his commitment to serving others.
Mark was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1973, where he began to show the intelligence, curiosity, and leadership that would define him. He continued his academic journey at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, pursuing studies in Law. During this time, Mark not only expanded his education but also broadened his view of the world. He developed a deep love for traveling and exploring, always eager to experience new places, cultures, and perspectives. While at the university, he became a member of the distinguished fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi, where he built lifelong bonds of brotherhood that remained close to his heart. Those relationships were more than friendships, they were a lasting source of pride, support, and shared legacy.
After returning to Omaha, Mark continued his dedication to his faith and community, serving as a personal assistant to Bishop William H. Foeman of Mount Calvary Community Church. His service was marked by loyalty, humility, and a genuine desire to uplift those around him.
Mark lived life with passion and intention. He loved his family deeply, found peace in nature, especially in caring for plants and flowers, and carried a lifelong connection to sports. For over 30 years, he devoted himself to the sports community as both a coach and referee. In those roles, he was more than just a leader on the field, he was a mentor, a teacher, and a source of encouragement for many.
In June of 2018, Mark united in marriage with Dorcas (Davis), embracing love and companionship in a new and meaningful way.
Mark was a man of great intelligence, passion, and vigor. He had a sharp, analytical mind and a sense of humor that could brighten any room. He was funny to a fault, thoughtful in his words, and intentional in how he lived his life. His presence was strong yet comforting, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
