Margaret died on Friday, February 17, 2023, at New Cassel in Omaha. She was provided compassionate and loving care by the New Cassel staff and Tabitha Hospice Care team, who the family would like to thank. These caregivers are angels on earth.

Margaret was born on July 20, 1930, to Killian and Helen (Gaspers) Schaecher at Albion, NE. She attended school at Lindsay Holy Family and graduated with the class of 1948. She moved to Omaha after graduation and worked for years at Northwestern Bell. On September 12, 1959, she was united in marriage to Charles Kahre in Omaha, where they were a founding family of St. James Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, Vanda Beauty saleswoman, and volunteer for St. James. In a later season of life, she returned to work where she was a top sales associate with Casual Corner at Westroads Omaha, and was always the best dressed sporting trendy attire that was always accentuated with a bright scarf and pin.

Margaret’s greatest passion was her four grandchildren: Jacob, 34, (Omaha, NE), Zachary, 33, (Aurora, CO), Taylor, 26, (Chicago, IL) and Mitchell Kahre, 22, (Elkhorn, NE). Margaret cared for each of the grandchildren while they were babies and loved rocking and reading to them. As the grandchildren grew older, she enjoyed taking them to play Skeeball, where Grandma Kahre excelled at this activity, to the library, the Nebraska Humane Society, and out to lunch. The grandchildren all have vivid memories of baking and frosting Christmas cookies and reading The Christmas Story every Christmas morning before they could open the mound of gifts from Grandma. All four grandchildren were involved in a myriad of sports and activities and you would always find Grandma Kahre during these years at the football, softball and baseball fields, sitting in the bleachers at the basketball games, and at Taylor’s yearly dance recitals. Margaret thought the sun rose and set on her grandchildren and they will dearly miss their Gram.

Survivors include her children, Susan Kahre Stradford (Todd) of Platteview, WI, son Bill Kahre (Patti) of Omaha, NE, and son Mike Kahre (Sally) of Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren; a sister JoElla Fleshman of Vacaville, CA, a brother, Art Schaecher (Dottie) of Aurora, CO; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, one brother and many other beloved family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Tabitha Hospice Fund and St. James Catholic Church.
