Our sweet mother is in the loving arms of Jesus as the Lord look her to Heaven to be with him. Mom loved Jesus very much and instilled that in all of us.
Mom graduated from Fort Smith High in Fort Smith, Arkansas, & went to College at Concordia Teachers College in River Forrest. She taught at Trinity Lutheran School in Atchison, Kansas where she met dad. She also taught at St. Paul Lutheran in Yorktown, Iowa for a year before moving to Omaha (following her marriage to Erwin). She taught at Zion Lutheran School until the birth of her son, David. She returned to teaching after all her children were in school, teaching at Hope Lutheran School in Omaha for one year. After this, she taught for the Omaha Public Schools (mostly first grade) until her retirement. Mom loved her own children as well as her school children & teaching them. Mom was a very good teacher, and her kids loved her. After her retirement from OPS, mom worked as a substitute teacher for St. Paul Lutheran School. After not renewing her teaching certificate, she volunteered reading with kindergarteners & first graders at St. Paul. Mom really enjoyed doing that, it showed her compassion for her work, her family, and especially Jesus.
After retirement, mom enjoyed quilting with the St. Paul Quilters. Mom also enjoyed crocheting, and giving some of her crochet works as gifts, She would crochet beautiful baptism gowns and other beautiful items for her grandchildren., and others.
Preceded in death by husband of 60+ years: Erwin; parents: Norval and Blanch Nigh; and all of her siblings. Survived by her children: Dave (Sandy) Hillman, Stephen Hillman, John Hillman, Elaine (Stan) Kirch; 5 grandchildren: Jeff & Lisa Hillman, Becky, James (Samantha), & Michael (Devon) Kirch; 11 great-grandchildren: Miranda Hale (Diandre), Bryce Kirch, Lily, Ezra, Theo "Teddy", Liam, & Arabella Kirch, Judah Kirch, Caleb Kirch, Cloe & Jack Hollis; 1 great-great-granddaughter: Salem Ellington; and a host of other loving family and friends.
