Linda Kay Sexton, age 76, passed away after her battle with leukemia on May 30th, 2025.
Linda was born on May 9th, 1949, to Virg and Roena Sexton. Even at a young age, Linda liked being the center of attention, keeping everyone on their toes. She grew up on their farm outside of Bedford, Iowa, loving most things farm life and wanting to go everywhere she could with her daddy, her cousins, big brother Dick, and of course, her beloved dog Shep. She graduated from Bedford Community High School in 1967, and moved on to the big city of Omaha, attending the Commercial Extension School of Commerce. Linda would be the first to tell you that the most important things she gained from her time at school were the friendships she made that have spanned her lifetime.
Throughout her life, Linda had a variety of job titles and worked in all kinds of businesses from radio stations to commercial real estate, to illustrious law offices. She lived and worked not only in Omaha, but Denver, Colorado, and Bozeman, Montana, where the farm girl fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. No matter where she lived, Linda was up for adventure whether it be hiking, rollerblading, skiing, or biking, and in the last 25 years here in Omaha, gardening and putzing around her yard. Everywhere she lived and worked, Linda continued to build an incredible network of friends that were more like family, who have stayed faithfully by her side in all the difficulties of this last year.
While Linda’s life was full of fantastic friendships, one of her greatest joys was being an aunt. She was all the best parts of a goofy older sister and an over-indulgent parent, and truly loved each of us as if we were her favorite. Even though she loved the mountains, Linda gave it all up once we started having children of our own and moved back to Omaha to be a part of all the chaos and joy of raising our kids. She loved her great-nieces and nephews like crazy, and knowing she would miss the lives they have ahead of them was one of her greatest regrets.
Linda was preceded in death by both her parents, precious niece Macy Carter, her obnoxious, loving brother Dick Brown, and her fabulous cats Abby, Spaz, and Sassy. She is survived by her sister-in-law Marie Brown, niece Michelle Carter, nephew Jim (Lori) Brown, and niece Amy (Brian) Smith, as well as her great nieces and nephews, Hannah Carter, Jacob Carter, Colin Brown, Grant Brown, Gabe Smith, Zane Smith, her half-brother Ronnie Sexton, and a host of other family and friends.
