Leo Sanders was born in Bienville, Louisiana on December 8, 1944 to Lester Sanders Sr. and Willie Mae Sanders. He departed this life on Saturday February 11, 2023.
Leo's family migrated from the rural South to Omaha, Nebraska in search of a better life. There he attended Tech High School graduating in the class of June 8, 1965. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.
Leo met Betty Jean Williams in 1964 and soon after, they were united in holy matrimony on November 15, 1965 and were blessed with five daughters. After 8 years of marriage, Leo and Betty ended their marriage and remained friends. He went on and was blessed to have 3 daughters with his partner Betty Bush. Leo married his second wife Vennie Pink on August 27, 1989 until her departure.
Leo was employed by the Duncan Hines Plant at Eighth and Jackson Streets in Omaha, Nebraska for many years, then moved to Memphis Tennessee where he worked at Memorial Baptist Hospital until he retired. He was also a member of the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Memphis. Leo enjoyed playing cards; Spades and Bid Wiz as well as playing Dominoes. He was an avid fisherman and loved bowling and gaming. Though Leo is no longer with us, it will be hard to imagine holidays and events without him. He will never be forgotten.
Leo is preceded in death by his wife: Vennie Sanders, parents: Lester and Willie Mae Sanders, brother: Mack Royal Sanders, sister: Eloise Edwards, and Grandson: JaVion Taeva Bush-Sanders.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters; Patricia Williams, Ronnett Sanders Davis, Vicki Windom, Melissa Sanders (Kerwin Andersen), Terri (Mario) Clay, Bettina Bush-Sanders, Katrina Duncan, Tamara Bush-Sanders, bonus daughter; Rosalind Williams, step children; Lottie Pink, Jonathan (Duke) Pink, sister; Ruthie (Henry) Gunn, brothers; Lester Sanders Jr., T.H Sanders and Charles Sanders, 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends
Services will be held on Friday (2/17/2023) at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th Street, Omaha, NE. Viewing will be from 12 – 1 PM with Funeral Service at 1 PM. Burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
