Lenton Jerome Stinton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Union County, South Dakota, on January 26, 1940, Lenton was the son of Lloyd Stinton and Serena Peck. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a natural talent for understanding how things worked—a gift that would guide his life and career.
On June 11, 1960, Lenton married the love of his life, Eloise Groetken, in Le Mars, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters, Kim Stinton (formerly Mrs. Mark Munday) and Toni Miranda (Rafael).
Lenton was the proud former owner of Precision Auto in Le Mars, Iowa, where his expertise and honesty earned him the trust and respect of his community. In 1987, he and Eloise moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where Lenton began a new chapter at Metropolitan Community College, working with the Ford ASSET program. During his time there, he also earned his Associate’s Degree from Metropolitan Community College—a reflection of his lifelong belief in learning and personal growth. Through his teaching, he inspired countless students to develop their skills and take pride in their craft. He retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and excellence.
Lenton’s life was rich with simple joys—tinkering under the hood of a car, shaping wood into something useful or beautiful, and lending a hand in Eloise’s garden. He could fix anything. Helping others and working with his hands brought him deep satisfaction and purpose.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years: Eloise; his daughters: Kim and Toni; his grandchildren: Mikaela Munday-Smith (Jeremy), Taylor Munday, Gage Munday, Tanner Munday, Elizabeth Miranda, Elena Miranda, Vanessa Miranda-Gonzalez (Joseph), and Raphael Miranda; and his great-grandchildren: Maleena Munday and Brynlee Gubert; and siblings: Gary Stinton, Linden Stinton, Robin Stinton, and Colleen Josephson.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His quiet strength, steady hands, and generous heart made the world a better place.
In celebration of Lenton’s life, a visitation will be held at the Roeder Mortuary (2727 N 108th Street, Omaha, NE 68164) on Friday, October 31, from 2:00pm-4:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church (109 6th Ave SW, Le Mars, IA 51031) on Saturday November 1, 11:00am, with a luncheon to follow in the church basement.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School (www.stjo.org) or American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate).
