Lawrence Wayne Mero, 76, passed away April 6, 2023, with his family by his side in Lincoln, NE.
He was born November 5th, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND to Gerald and Vivian (Burt) Mero. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School graduating in 1965. After graduation he started working at The Great Northern Railroad following his father and Uncle as a Carman in Grand Forks, ND.
Larry married Linda Louise Guttu, April 1st, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, MN.
Larry worked at the Grand Forks car shop until 1974 when he transferred to Minot, ND as an Assistant Car Forman. He was transferred to Havelock Shops in Lincoln, NE where he held a number of positions. He was transferred to St. Cloud, MN on November 20th, 1980, as Assistant Superintendent. He was transferred back to Havelock Shops in 1986 as a General Foreman with the Burlington Northern Railroad until retirement from BNSF Railway, he had a total of 41 years, 1 month of service.
Some of Larry’s favorite past times were Hunting, Fishing, Camping with his family and friends, Golfing, he also had a passion for Classic Cars and Motorcycles.
Larry is survived by his children Wendy Himley (David), Jodi Boland (Steve) and Cory Mero (Amber), Grandchildren Jordyn, Nikolas, Sam Himley, Tyler, Jack, Payton Boland, Jade Mero and Great Grand-daughter Willa Himley. 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Mero (Guttu), Gerald (father) and Vivian (mother) Mero, Linda (sister) Schwan and Gerald Schwan (nephew).
Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gretna, NE on Friday, April 14th, 2023. Visitation will be held from 9am with service starting at 10am. A luncheon will follow the church service.
