Ken Suing was born April 8, 1941 in Gregory, South Dakota and moved with his family to Butte, Nebraska where he graduated from Butte High School. Ken excelled as a center on the football team and as a basketball player. After high school, Ken married Donna Carmichael in 1961 and joined the army. Ken was stationed at White Sands Missile Base near Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he worked testing missiles and rockets. Ken and Donna also lived for a short time in the Dallas area before moving to Omaha, NE. In Dallas, Ken became a big Dallas Cowboys fan. Ken worked at Federal Envelope Company in Omaha for 39 years, starting as a machinist and working his way up to upper management.
Ken had two sons, Jeff and Greg. He coached little league baseball and encouraged the boys to participate in Cub Scouts and various sporting events. Ken was also involved in drag racing, building and driving two drag racers for several years. Ken also was a Porsche enthusiast, restoring multiple vintage Porsches. He enjoyed driving his red Porsche 911S for many years, traveling with Donna to New Mexico and various other states. Ken attended an Indy 500 race with his brother Dean and followed Indy racing for decades.
After his drag racing career, Ken became interested in woodworking and built hundreds of pieces for friends, family, neighbors, and his own home. His home was beautifully adorned with oak doors, stairs, wainscoting, trim, and cabinetry. Ken built all the furniture in the home. He loved spending his days in his workshop.
Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, building furniture and toys for his grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed gathering with his family to watch Nebraska Cornhusker and Creighton Bluejay events, bowl games, NCAA basketball tournament games, and the Indy 500.
Ken is survived by sons Jeff (Debbie) and Greg (Susan), five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ron (Barb), Dean (Ann Benson), sister LuAnn (Lynn Sanne), sister-in-law Karen Suing, brother-in-law Dick (Lynette) Carmichael. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Donna, his parents Edmund and Esther Suing, and his brother Gene.
