Kenneth J Penning, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Park View Rehab & Nursing Center in Sac City, Iowa where he was currently residing. He was known as Ken to his friends and work world, and as Kenny to his family.
He was born March 23, 1941 in Granville, Iowa to Vincent and Florentine (Mousel) Penning. He attended St Joseph Catholic School in Granville where he graduated from in 1959. He grew up and worked on the family farm until he honorably served in the Army 1963-1965.
Shortly after the Army, he moved to Omaha where he resided until his final months at Park View in Sac City. He worked as a computer programmer for different banks in the Omaha area until his retirement a few years ago.
Ken married Patience (Pat) Ford McGinnis in Omaha in 1983. Pat passed away in April 2020.
Ken was a fairly quiet person and kind of kept “under the radar”. He and Pat enjoyed frequenting the casinos, he loved to golf (he’s in the hole-in-one club), and he loyally followed the Huskers and Green Bay Packers. In his earlier days, he was a big Hank Aaron fan. He was also very light on his feet, a good dancer.
Ken is survived by his sister, Marilyn Champion; his sister-in-laws Muriel (Penning) Koehlmoos and Diane Penning; his brother-in-law David Ford; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his mother and father-in law Paul and Elizabeth Ford; sisters Geraldine Anderson, Lois Burkard, and Darlene (Dolly) Penning; brothers Lowell Penning (infant), Lloyd Penning, Ron Penning, and Dennis (Butch) Penning; brother-in-laws Ron Anderson, Robert (Bob) Burkard, and Martin (Marty) Champion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on April 12, 2023 at Roeder Funeral Home, 2727 N 108th St, Omaha, NE 68164.
Memorials may be directed to the family or your favorite charity in Ken’s name.
