Kari L. Closner was born on September 24, 1972, in Minot, North Dakota, to loving parents, Pete and Marianne Gange. Throughout her childhood, she experienced the challenges and joys of growing up in various places, ultimately finding her sense of belonging in Lincoln, NE in 1988, where she established her permanent home.
Driven by a desire to make a difference in others' lives, Kari pursued an associate's degree in Practical Nursing from Southeast Community College. This accomplishment led her to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In the early years of her career, she dedicated herself to caring for others, working as both a nursing home nurse and a home health nurse. Kari later became a crafter, creating custom holiday accessories for her online store.
On a personal level, when Kari's journey took her to Lincoln, she met her husband, Shawn. Their love blossomed, leading to their wedding at the Lutheran Center (UNL) in Lincoln on May 30, 1992. For 32 beautiful years, they shared their lives together, fostering a warm and loving home filled with the laughter of their four children: Cody, Austin, Jacob, and Alyssa. As a devoted wife and mother, Kari also cherished her role as a grandmother to Nora and Kinsley, leaving a lasting impression on all their lives with her nurturing spirit.
Her heart was truly open, and she was known for “wearing her heart on her sleeve.” Kari was the heart of her family, creating treasured traditions that brought everyone together, especially during the holidays. One of her favorite yearly outings was a trip to the Pumpkin Patch every October, where the whole family would gather and create unforgettable memories.
Kari had a remarkable talent for decorating their home, transforming it for every major holiday, with Halloween and Christmas being her favorites. Her joy was infectious when it came to her beloved collection of Cabbage Patch Kids; she amassed over 100 of them, reflecting her youthful spirit.
Throughout the years, Kari made countless memories with her family, taking them on special vacations that they would all cherish forever. Their adventures included two trips to beautiful Laguna Beach, action packed visits to Disney World and DisneyLand, as well as cherished moments at Lewis and Clark Lake. Her legacy of love, joy, and unforgettable moments will surely be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
