Karen Crawford, 84, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday June 22, 2025.
Karen was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1940 to Louis and Muriel (Thomson) Kaufmann. Karen attended Benson High School in Omaha and was later inducted into the Benson High School Hall of Fame. She went on to earn her BA in Education and her MA in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She married Jack Crawford in 1977. Karen truly enjoyed her 33-year career with the Omaha Public Schools and rarely forgot a name or a face. During her years in the personnel department, she helped many new teachers join OPS.
Karen loved her family and her many friends. She “didn’t know a stranger” and was often seen chatting with new and long-time friends in the aisles of the grocery or department store. She always made sure to keep her standing weekly hair appointment, even during vacations in the couple’s motor home. She enjoyed cross-country travel and was able to see 38 states with Jack. She and Jack also spent 20 years raising Bouviers des Flanders dogs as loving and loyal companions. She adored having one or more dogs at all times.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Muriel Kaufmann. She is survived by her husband Jack, stepdaughter Sharon Crawford Fee (Dan), stepdaughter Christine (Crawford) Severin (Michael), stepson Bradley Crawford, grandson Ryan Fee, granddaughter Christina Severin, and grandsons Ethan and Logan Crawford.
Karen’s family will host a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in the chapel at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N 108th St. Omaha, NE 68164. The family requests casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to Boys Town in Karen’s memory.
