Judy R. Burke

Judith Rae Burke arrived in the world on September 26, 1944, the oldest daughter of Raymond and Lorraine Muell of Omaha, Nebraska.

She graduated from Mercy High School in 1962 and went on to pursue an education in nursing, graduating from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in 1965 and receiving a Bachelor's in Nursing at the Municipal University of Omaha in 1967. After graduation, Judy would continue to hone her skills as a nurse to become a Labor and Delivery RN at Bergan Mercy Hospital.

She met her King of Hearts, Pete Burke, at Linoma Beach on April 28, 1972, marrying exactly a year later. Three children soon followed: Amy in 1975, Patrick in 1979, and Kevin in 1981.

After marriage, Judy traded in the city life to join Pete out on the farm, helping raise baby calves, piglets and barn cats out in Wolbach, Nebraska. She would also work evening shifts at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. In 1988, Judy and the family downsized to the acreage life just outside of Gretna, returning to Bergan Mercy Hospital for 25 more years and retiring in 2014.

In her spare time, Judy enjoyed watching the Huskers and NFL football, often accompanied by Pete and her cat Patches. She also raised cattle as a hobby and devoted time to gardening, cooking, crocheting, crossword puzzles and grandsons Collin and Flynn.

Judith was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years: Peter; parents: Ray and Lorraine Muell; and sister: Pat Pennisi.

Survived by her children: daughter Amy, sons Patrick (Angie) and Kevin, and grandsons: Flynn Burke and Collin Fritz; sister: Peggy (Steve) Boll; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving family & friends.

Visitation Tuesday (7/9/2024) 5:00 - 7:00 PM with Rosary 7:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary Gretna Chapel; Funeral Mass 10:00 AM Wednesday (7/10/2024) at St. Patrick Catholic Church 508 Angus St Gretna, NE; Burial Wednesday (7/10/2024) 1:30 PM at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Gretna, NE.
