Joyce A. Scott

Omaha -Joyce Ann (Brown) Scott was born on November 11, 1945, to Eloise Brown and James Roane at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Her mother and God Parents, Calvin and Estell Falson, raised her throughout her formative years.

Joyce confessed her life to Christ at the age of 14 and was baptized on May 11, 1959 at Union Level Baptist Church in Richmond. There she participated in Sunday School and taught the Beginner's Class, sang in the Youth People’s Choir, and ushered with the Youth Ushers.

Joyce graduated from Armstrong High School in 1964. After graduation, she joined the Job Corps in 1965 and was sent to Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated from the Job Corps in 1967. She had an assignment in Wilmington, Delaware at the YMCA. Joyce returned to Omaha in 1968 and worked at J. L. Tucker as a parts clerk.

In 1967, Joyce joined Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J. C. Wade Sr. There she attended Sunday School and joined the Inspirational Choir, B.T.U. Mission, and Women’s Chorus. She was active in several ministries: Hospitality, Investment, and Women’s Bible Ministry. She loved to sing Gospel songs and was happy to be a member of the Voices of Victory and Gospel Choirs.

Joyce met the love of her life, Ronald Scott Sr., in May of 1970. They married on September 5, 1970. She was a stay-home wife and mother until 1992. After Ronald's passing, she worked at Beals Elementary School and Mount View Elementary as a para. She went to work at NECO, now Global Industries, until her retirement in 2018.

Joyce's son, Stephen, daughter Michelle, and loving nephew Andre Brown and his wife Tracy, cared for her in the last days of her life. This allowed Joyce to continue to live in her beloved family home of over 50 years. In addition, Jason, her very special grandson who was the son that she never had, was faithful to be the "Saturday morning call" that Joyce looked forward to. She was always known to him as “Grandma Joyce”.

After months of declining health, Joyce passed away peacefully at 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Ronald Scott Sr.; parents, Eloise Brown and James Roane; daughter, Carolyn Scott Holiday; son, Dr. Jeffrey L. Scott; sister, Virginia B. Johnson; and brother, Arthur Brown; and special friend, Vickie Avant.
