Joyce B. Lemke

Joyce Lemke, 62, of Gretna, Nebraska died peacefully in her sleep on May 20, 2024, surrounded by her closest family.  

Joyce was born to Lloyd and Marie Lemke (Ollischik) on March 31, 1962, in Omaha, NE.  She attended school in Gretna, NE.  After high school, she attended St. Mary’s College and graduated with her nursing degree.   Nursing was her passion in life, and she made a huge impact on so many children and their family's lives during her career at Bergan Mercy and Boys Town in Omaha.

Although Joyce never had any human children, she always had many “children dogs” throughout her life.  Callie and Bailey preceded her in death and met her to play ball on the rainbow bridge.  Her latest dog, Lucy, went to live with one of Joyce’s best friends.  

Joyce is survived by her parents, Lloyd and Marie Lemke of Gretna, NE; nephews Will (Carmelita) Colby and sons Wiatt and Koltin of Gillette, WY; Jake (Dawn) Kaenel and son Jake of Hot Springs, AR; Josephine Kaenel and daughter Emma Thomas of Hot Springs, AR, and Joe (Mae) Kaenel of Melbourne, AU.  Joyce is also survived by Michelle Luettel, of Waterloo, NE a special friend, coworker, and caregiver.  Joyce is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews and special friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and a nephew.  

Visitation Thursday 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Friday (5/24/24) at Resurrection Lutheran Church 153 S. McKenna Ave. Gretna. Interment Ashland Cemetery. Memorials to the family to be designated later.
